A month or so ago, a really nice lady gifted me with a book titled “God Never Blinks” written by Regina Brett. The book contained some fifty (50) lessons for “life’s little detours”.
My life took a major detour last year, one that changed and continues to change me. The detour left me in a valley so deep, I thought (and sometimes still think) I will never be able to get out of. It is hard to go on when your heart is so broken, when you know that there is no way you can pick up the pieces and put it back together again — the way it was before.
But God never blinks. HE never does. I continue to be blessed with His grace. He holds me close, keeps me in His embrace, during all the moments when I feel I am slowly slipping away.
This book is one of God’s tender embrace. In its pages I found a way forward, a mission, a statement that I hope will give me light, strength, and purpose in the next years as I wait for His perfect time.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
(Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi)
